Saturday 2 August saw the first of a three test series played by the Australian Schoolboys when they met the Great Britain Academy side at Dairy Farmers Stadium in Townsville. The Second Test was also played against the touring British Academy team but this one was played at Kougari Oval, Brisbane a week later. The Third and final Test was played at the same venue but featured the Australians playing the touring French Schoolboys team. The ARLRA has the responsibility for providing match officials for Australian Secondary Schools Representative fixtures and this extends to these types of Test matches. There is a requirement by ASSRL that the best available officials are appointed to these fixtures which are usually of a very high standard and keenly contested. This year saw three teams of officials appointed, one for each of the fixtures and once again all referees did their states, associations, the ARLRA and themselves proud. The First Test at Townsville was refereed by Gerard Sutton of NSWRLRA with QRLRB members David Shaw and Peter Jones on the touch. The Second Test at Brisbane was controlled by Gavin Morris of QRLRB and ably assisted by Jim Oliveira and Jason Higgins of NSWRLRA. The Third Test against the French which was also at Brisbane was refereed by Adam Devcich of NSWRLRA with Justin Davis and Andrew Wareham on the touch. Each of the officials participating in this Test series was presented by the ARLRA Board with their on-field gear which was suitably monogrammed to mark the occasion. The Board of the ARLRA congratulates each of the referees who so capably represented the Association during the series. |
